It mainly consists of fibres, which have traditionally been used to manufacture rope, carpets, doormats, mattresses and brushes. Between these fibres is a corky granular substance called Coir Pith or COCO PEAT that has been found to have physico-chemical properties such as excellent aeration, drainage and water holding capacity making it a superior growing media for plants and a substitute for soil. 

Coir pith or Cocopeat is accepted widely as a suitable soil substrate and has been consistently used in the cultivation of vegetables, fruits and flowers with outstanding results.
